It is well known that depletion of fossil fuels feedstock will cause the steep price rise of valuable products of basic organic synthesis. Taking into consideration all the difficulties of situation, we decided to assess the possibility of ethanol application as the raw material in synthesis of ethylene and aromatic hydrocarbons – key products of industrial organic chemistry. Best results were obtained on X zeolite in case of ethanol dehydration into ethylene, and on HZSM-5 zeolite in case of ethanol conversion to aromatic hydrocarbons.
