A new test-method has been developed to determine calcium in the waters immediately. The method is based upon the noncovalent immobilization of Arsenazo III into the gelatine gel. It employs visual and spectrophotometric indication of the analytical signal. As a polymeric substrate a compositional optically transparent matrix was used: the gelatine gel spread upon the triacetyl-cellulose substrate. The same method in the variant of solid-phase spectrophotometry has been applied to monitor the abundance of calcium in the Yauza-river in Moscow during the spring flood. The selectivity of the test-method in relation to magnesium has been established at pH=7. The accuracy of the obtained results has later been verified with model solutions by means of the method “inserted – determined”.
