COMPOSITE MATERIAL BASED ON Al

Composite material based on corundum (0,25% MgO), reinforcing 0-8% of multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) was fabricated by vacuum sintering without pressure. MWCNTs was dispersed in dilute solution of polyvinyl alcohol. The obtained composites have almost no porosity. Microstructure and mechanical property of composite samples were characterized. Enhance of fracture toughness more than 2,5 times and reduction of density to 87,02% for 8% vol. MWCNTs content were achieved.
