The possibility of phenol inflow to the air from the water and the possibility of its UVdegradation in the water streams has been studied. It has been proved that phenol undergoes technogenic migration into the atmosphere under the influence of cooling air during evaporative cool- ing of the heated water in cooling towers. Experiments on the photochemical degradation of phenol in water were carried out in two ways: by direct exposure to UV radiation and under the influence of photoionization products in UV pre-irradiated water. It has been found out that both techniques can provide a complete removal of phenol.
