The synthesis of fibrous carbon nanostructures by catalytic pyrolysis of ethanol using new Ni/(NiO+Y2O3) catalyst was carried out. The catalyst has been produced by modified sol-gel technique. The influence of temperature conditions of synthesis on phase content of the samples and the ratio of structures produced was investigated. The mechanism of carbon nanotubes and nanofibres formation in case of non-complete reduction of oxide component of catalyst material was proposed.
